Mission Statement
The main purpose of Outreach is to help overcome the isolation that hinders the growth and survival of our groups and its members. We accomplish this by providing information about and access to the Narcotics Anonymous service structure.
Community Outreach is the primary focus of this sub-committee but not only limited to this. Community Outreach occurs in countryside, suburban, and metropolitan settings where NA already exists and some form of service structure has been developed to serve local needs. The focus in an NA community setting is on participation; assisting groups in need of support, getting support, getting GSR’s to area meetings, helping groups to become re-involved in the local service structure, and helping groups to register at the WSO are the primary functions of community-oriented outreach.
More so than most other committees, Outreach must carefully coordinate their efforts with other committees. In Outreach, we talk about being "Between the I's". Our PI committee focuses on presenting our message outside of NA. Our H & I committee presents panels in treatment facilities and incarceration facilities. Sometimes members behind the walls start and conduct their own NA groups, which are independent of H & I panels. It could be said that PI deals with the public at large and HI deals with those who don't have access to meetings. In the middle is Outreach and that is where Outreach work is done. To these struggling groups and members, it is often Outreach that rekindles the hope that "TOGETHER WE CAN".
