Public Relations Subcommittee Mission Statement:

The purpose of Public Relations work in Narcotics Anonymous is to inform the public that NA is available as a community resource, offering recovery from the disease of addiction. A Public Relations committee (PR) helps to ensure that accurate information about our fellowship is available to the public.

Our primary purpose as a fellowship is to carry the message to the addict who still suffers. PR is a vital part of "carrying the message." This type of service calls upon us to communicate and participate in many areas of the community including but not limited to schools, health centres, and public forums. A critical part of our mandate within the fellowship is to maintain our meeting lists as well as our area website. We are also the point of contact for health care professionals and media outlets

From time to time our fellowship may be invited to participate in public events. In these situations we may provide an NA booth, which contains some of our literature and meeting lists. Members who man a booth also provide more information such as our website address, our helpline number, and may be able to provide answers to some questions that may be posed.

This particular PR committee has been focused on two main projects over the past few months.

The first is informing secondary schools in the GTA of the services we can offer for Drug Awareness Week, or any other related courses or programs in their schools. These services include classroom speakers, an NA booth containing literature, and/or a general assembly speaker. We also provide the school's library with a copy of our basic text when available. The second project is the distribution of NA information and literature in languages other than English. The purpose of this is to increase community awareness of our program, and what is available to those who have alternate language needs.
